Practitioner Nutritional Health & Research Resource

RESEARCH STUDIES

There is an overwhelming amount of research on nutrition and health, with literally 1000’s of studies reporting each month.  Few people have time to trawl through all the research to find the latest studies of interest to them.

To help educate and act as a resource for Health Practitioners & Providers of all disciplines and backgrounds, Vibrant Life monitor peer review journals and add links to key abstracts on a quarterly basis to make it easier for you to keep up to date with latest developments in the field of Nutrition and Health.

In this section, you will find studies indexed by health topic, nutrient or nutrient source with abstract links where available.  PLEASE NOTE that for some journals and full text access you may be required to be a subscriber or have an ATHENS password.  Abstracts are generally available free, and some journals provide full free access upon registration.

Inclusion criteria for studies are:

• Studies should be linked to nutrition, nutritional components and health
• Studies should use human subjects or human cell lines.  Occasionally, we may include limited animal data where Human Modelling has been carried out.
• Research must be ‘Peer Reviewed’

This is by no means an exhaustive list and having started in Feb 2005, it is still in its early stages – so if you find a study that is worthy of inclusion that we have NOT listed, please e-mail us the details.

OPINIONS

Some studies are contentious in their findings and prompt much debate, public concern and occasionally, media coverage:  for example the recent Cochrane Library meta-analysis on Vitamin E prompted many headlines.  Therefore under our OPINIONS section we have gathered links to reviews and critical analyses of such studies to provide a  balanced view.

Criteria for inclusion of ‘Opinions’ are

• The opinion should be authored by an appropriately qualified author, for example a Doctor, a Nutritionist, Research scientists, lobby organisations or patient groups.
• That the organisation or individual authoring the opinion makes no immediate and direct financial gain from authoring the opinion.

PRACTITIONER JOURNALS

Here we provide links to the key medical, CAM and Practitioner journals to facilitate access for all health providers and researchers.

Some Journals may wish to place special offers for new subscribers, or make key announcements on forthcoming events.  If you would like your societies journal listed here along with a reciprocal link to your website please contact us to arrange this and we will do so FREE OF CHARGE or further obligation.

We will also be happy to post key announcements here that Journals or Practitioner Organisations may wish to make, but due to space limitations any entries must be limited to 100 words.

NEWS REPORTS

Here we gather what global media coverage we can find about research and developments reported in newspapers, for general interest and consumers.

Unfortunately, so much research never makes its way into the press or gains media coverage – therefore, if you are a researcher or other body who wishes to draw attention to studies, opinions or other press releases, please let us know and we will post links to your site and press release.  However, please note our inclusion criteria for Research and Opinions.  This information service is designed to increase the general awareness of nutritional medicine and healthcare amongst all types of health professional, and we will only include such links if we feel that the content will help to meet these goals.
